Fully Taught Course - Week 14

Week 14 – What We Cover

This week, we work on the following:

Maths: Co-Ordinates (FSL red book, page 41)

Most students quite like these, and the ‘along the corridor and up the stairs’ is a really useful phrase to help them remember to write down the x axis (horizontal) value first, followed by the y axis (vertical).

Verbal Reasoning: Word Problems (FSL green book, pages 35-36)

These are tricky, time consuming and confusing, but the best tip with them is to show as much working out as possible. Don’t worry too much if this part of the homework takes some time this week, they do get easier with practice but they’re deliberately designed to slow children down in a test, so it’s not unusual for them to find them tough. In an exam paper, we would often tell children to avoid these ‘time wasters’ until all the other work is completed, so they ensure it doesn’t hold them up too much.

English: Grammar and English Terms (FSL blue book, pages 18-20)

These questions are quite self explanatory, but there’s a really useful page in their English classwork book (page 18) to help them look out for common mistakes – e.g. writing ‘should of’ rather than ‘should have’, when to use whose vs who’s etc..
