Fully Taught Course - Week 13

Week 13 – What We Cover

This week, we work on the following:

Maths: Area and Perimeter, Angles of Triangles and Quadrilaterals (FSL red book, pages 36-40)

Area and Perimeter of shapes, as well as Angles of Triangles and Quadrilaterals. It will be useful for them to remember a few formulas/facts, as follows:

1. perimeter = all the sides of any shape added together (followed by the measurement given – cm/mm/m etc.)

2. area of a rectangle = length x width (plus the correct measurement, as well as the ² for squared)

3. area of a triangle = (base x height) ÷ 2 (again not forgetting the correct measurement and the ² for squared)

4. all interior angles of a triangle add up to 180⁰

5. all interior angles of a quadrilateral add up to 360⁰

We also went through finding the Area/Perimeter of a Compound Shape (i.e. one that is not a perfect rectangle/square) – if there are any problems with that in the homework, then the students should watch this revision video to help.

Verbal Reasoning: Missing Letters (FSL green book, pages 33-34)

We worked through ‘Missing Letters’ (a Verbal Reasoning type where students must find one letter that completes two words, and begins two as well):– e.g. BAT ( H ) OLD and CATC ( H ) OPE
